Studio Visit
I paid a visit to Ian’s Gloucestershire studio for an exciting first glimpse of the clay model, on which the finished bronze sculpture will be based. As Ian led me through the door to his studio, the young Britten was instantly recognisable at the far end of the barn, which I thought was a real mark of the success of the piece and the skill of the artist. I knew it was him and it had a presence that I found profoundly moving. He has managed to capture an expression of thoughtful youth and quiet determination. It’s a remarkable achievement and testament to Ian’s great skill.
