On Friday evening, Zeb Soanes gave a talk about the Britten as a Boy project to members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club. Britten’s father had been a member of the club and enjoyed spending Sundays at the clubhouse whilst young Benjamin explored the harbour with his mother and siblings.

The finished clay sculpture is now complete and this week it was set to be moulded before being cast in bronze.

Suffolk Sober Spaces held an open mic evening in aid of Britten as a boy at The Olive Centre, Lowestoft. Thank you to everyone who participated giving their support and music to the evening and a special thank you to organiser, Mike Linfield.

Genevieve Christie, CEO of Lowestoft’s First Light Festival invited the Britten as a Boy Committee to present the project to festival supporters and donors. Zeb Soanes spoke about the wider purpose of the statue to inspire the town’s children to achieve their ambitions and guests were able to view the statue maquette and ask questions about the project.

An intimate fundraising concert in Lewisham raised nearly £1700 for Britten as a Boy, with a programme of Britten’s music, interwoven with readings by BBC Radio 3’s Donald Macleod and David Pickard, director of the BBC Proms.

The Kirkley Poor’s Land Estate Trust has become a ‘Named Donor’ by supporting the Britten as a Boy statue.

In an evening of live folk music at The Players Theatre in Lowestoft, musicians from Suffolk and across the UK gave their music and talent to raise funds for Britten as a Boy and create a very special evening.
